Thermoplastic Elastomer dolls are highly appreciated for their soft, realistic skin texture and natural flexibility. However, because TPE is a soft elastic material, proper posing and storage are essential to prevent unnecessary damage and extend the doll’s lifespan.
Among all body areas, the armpit area is one of the highest-risk areas for TPE damage. The reason is related to the structure of the material and the way stress is distributed when the doll is posed.
Why Does the Armpit Area Crack More Easily?
The armpit area features a large surface of thin TPE skin with natural folds and wrinkles. When the arms are lifted upward, the skin around the armpits is forced to stretch open, creating one of the highest tensile stress points on the entire body.
When TPE material remains under continuous stretching for a long period, it may experience:
-
Stress relaxation: The material gradually loses its ability to return completely to its original shape after being stretched.
-
Molecular structure fatigue: Continuous tension can weaken the internal molecular connections of the TPE material over time.
-
Permanent deformation and cracking: Small stress lines may appear first, eventually developing into deeper cracks if the tension continues.
Because the armpit skin is thinner and experiences greater stretching force, it is naturally one of the most vulnerable areas of a TPE doll.
Avoid Long-Term Raised Arm Storage
A raised-arm pose can create an attractive and dynamic appearance for photography. However, keeping the arms fixed in a raised position for too long can place the armpit TPE under constant extreme stretching.
If the arms remain lifted continuously for 1–3 days without being lowered, the armpit area stays under maximum stretching stress. Over time, the following may occur:
-
Fine stress lines appear on the TPE surface
-
The stretched area becomes weaker due to continuous tension
-
Cracks may gradually extend and develop into larger tears
For this reason, do not store your TPE doll with the arms permanently raised.
Recommended Storage Position
For long-term storage, we recommend keeping the doll in a natural relaxed posture:
✅ Keep the arms naturally lowered
✅ Avoid extreme poses that maintain constant skin tension
✅ Allow stretched areas to recover after posing
A relaxed arm position helps release tension from the armpit area and reduces the risk of material fatigue.
How to Safely Use Raised-Arm Poses
If you want to create a high-arm pose for photos or display, we recommend giving the TPE material regular recovery time.
Recommended practice:
-
Do not keep the arms raised for extended periods.
-
Lower the arms every 2–4 hours.
-
Allow the armpit area to rest and release stretching stress before continuing the pose.
Regularly changing positions helps reduce accumulated stress and protects the delicate TPE skin.
Protect Your TPE Doll with Proper Care
TPE provides an incredibly realistic and soft experience, but it requires careful handling like any flexible material. Long-term stretching, especially in high-stress areas such as the armpits, can accelerate material fatigue.
By avoiding prolonged raised-arm poses and storing your doll in a natural position, you can minimize stress damage and help maintain the realistic beauty and softness of your TPE doll for years.
Gentle handling and proper storage are the keys to preserving your TPE doll’s long-lasting quality.
